Case Study: How to Profit off Your Authentic Brand Voice

The first thing I want you to know about making money off your brand voice authenticity is this: it’s the long game. It’s also a high risk, high reward scenario. In short, it ain’t for the weak! But you can do this, even if you have to do it scared.

Why does an authentic brand voice matter?

Someone asked me how they would pitch selling an authentic brand voice audit to their marketing decision maker my brain went blank. I’ve been writing copy professionally for 13 years and I’ve never had to sell why good copy matters.

Sales and analytics are not a big part of what I do as a messaging expert. Then I remembered that LinkedIn has analytics. 

When I started being "too much" on LinkedIn my weekly impressions increased 1,407.5%

What is too much? It’s just someone else’s limited description of me being authentic.

I ran a brand voice audit on myself, it told me to go harder. So I did. 

Within a couple of months I built momentum, then boom, 58,548 impressions in one week. 33,866 members reached in 7 days. 

I went from 0 connections to 200+ on LinkedIn in a few months. That might not sound like much to you but I am highly selective with the connections I accept and I wasn’t positing as a business or brand. I was posting as a job seeker.

But I did reach 33,866 LinkedIn members with one post which is far more than my little 200 connections could provide on their own.

Around that same time, the spike in my social following resulted in a few quick wins: interviews with recruiters (who had previously ghosted for months) and I sold a few social media audits to some folks in real estate, who found me on social media using my authentic voice.

Again, authenticity is the long game especially for people who are starting from scratch, and by that I mean brand new social media accounts with 0 followers on your first day.

Track your wins, even the small ones. And watch how they grow over time when you are consistent.
